The rain continues to wash against the shed outside, mixing well with the explosions of the HE rounds into your vehicles on the outside. With a wash of adrenaline you kick off the tiredness of days of constant action and rise to this new challenge. The upstairs room of the shed has many fortified windows, with a ladder cut roughly center leading down into the lower room.

The Longest Night (Act 3 - Gunsun) Empty Re: The Longest Night (Act 3 - Gunsun)

Life is in full gear down inside the first story of the building, outside the southern windows the night flashes constantly with light from rifle muzzle fire as both sides less then meters apart and right outside the entrance exchange fire. Shouts and cries of pain issue out into the night over the pour of rain and inside the French soldiers rush to prepare their VAB APC's to depart while some of their soldiers man the two AT Guns and maneuver them to another window. Around the fortified windows of the shed men take cover both French and Allied alike, exchanging fire point blank with forces outside as bullets tear through the walls. Somewhere in the distance Major Wiedermann issues the orders to withdraw to the forest, it is clear however that their is enemy forces all over your current position.

There seems to be little or no room left inside the transports when sudden the northern walls are shredded under high caliber MG bullets, the bullets impacting on nearby soldiers and killing them in a shower of blood and gore. A yell issues from near the southern entrance - "We can't wait any longer! Get those VAB's moving!" the French soldiers rush inside the APC's and begin closing them moments after you hear another yell from the front "Get that door open!"

Gunson swivels to meet the melee before him arcs of fire blinding the morning sky.

"Im not surprised this sh** is on us again. F**king recruits still have their beret's wet."

Swiftly moving to the ladder, he hurls himself downwards to the lower room. Swinging his HP5 from his back to his front he hammers the action on the bolt assembly thundering it into a ready state. Looking around him and yelling out "16 Brigade ON ME!!" he waits crouched down at the ladders bottom.

With a clutter under the fire British paratroopers, a total of eight including Corporal Briggins make a ordered move to Captain Gunsun, dodging hails of fire as they break through the iron skirting of the shed, their L85 rifles prepared and eyes steeled in determination. "On you, Sir!"

Gunson stands up, the hail of bullets flailing around his position. Piously he turns to his unit

"Men the sh** has hit the fan, we're moving out. Corporal, assign your fastest to aquire the best rifle he can, take it form one of the french ba***rds if needs be.. The rest of us are moving to the tree line in double time. Once there I will give QBO"

As the Corpral designates of a man Gunson motions for the now seven men to follow him,

"I hope you have a radio with you Corporal.." he says as they dash off toward the tree line.

The shed door cracks open with a effort from Bear and a few Legion soldiers, revealing the fury of chaos outside as bullets focus in through the now open door. Men form up and push out into the night - Somewhere someone - One of the French officers orders his men to target RPG's to allow the APC's passage. As you step through the opening following the wave of soldiers the rain greets you, directly south a unit of seven or eight Russians are engaged by the forward group of soldiers, however flanking fire goes un-noticed in the turmoil from a unit to the east of the entrance, five Russian soldiers, one armed with a RPG over his back have just finished off an American GI at point blank now a mere twelve meters from the door fix their AK's upon the group exiting into the rain.

Sighting the Russian with RPG,

Gunson unholsters his Remington and aims at his head. Shouting over his shoulder to his men:
"Take that f**king RPG out!!" simultaneously firing off a single shot at the RPG.

The shots ring off into the night, hissing as they travel so quickly at the small group of Russian soldiers. Aimed for the lucky man with the RPG two impact into him one into his chest the other into his leg, he staggers and falls to the ground, however his movement shows he still has barely enough fight left in him to be a danger. The Russian soldiers turn their attention towards the paratrooper unit, opening up with automatic fire that misses the men horribly, tinging into the shed behind them and kicking dirt up well in front of the men.

As the paratroopers advance they all fire a burst of fire to the Russian unit left, one unfortunate soldier jiggles like a leaf in the wind as several bullets all randomly tear through his flesh, another goes down to just one bullet wounded.

They return fire as the paratroopers move, their fire killing one unfortunate paratrooper barely grazing another and you yourself feel a tiny belt of pain as one sears very lightly across your right thigh.

As the paratroopers turn to move through the forward line engaged with the Russian unit twenty meters away a pair of orange explosions flash kicking up gore, blood and dirt everywhere from directly ahead to the south of the paratrooper unit centering on top of where the Russian unit was and to the western corner of the shed behind them. French soldiers advance on the farmhouse slightly south-east of the unit, and directly south to where the wounded soldiers of the group of seven or so Russians once stood obviously intent on dealing with those still trying to fight from them. On one of the Farmhouse downstairs windows a PK has been established and fires upon a different group of soldiers far from your own paratrooper unit. One of your soldiers still lugging a earlier captured RPG from the fight before this one shouts to get your attention as you run, motioning to a armored vehicle four hundred meters away firing a heavy caliber machine gun onto retreating Allied soldiers far ahead of you - Probably once part of the initial defenses around the convoy. The way is clear to it and the allied soldiers except for a small group of Russian soldiers, three in total kneeling and firing from the tracks also onto the allied soldiers.

Gunson notices one of his men fall, almost hesitating to retrieve him he thunders onwards. Sighting the armoured vehicle a reckless rage consumes his more rational thinking!

"EAGLES!! I want that vehicle!" Dashing onwards towards the firing vehicle and laying down a hefty barrage of fire towards the small russian force near it.

Trotting through the rain and muck towards their acquired target the soldiers unleash the rest of their magazine into the three kneeling troops. Two bullets clearly catching one Russian and causing him to fall out of sight down the other side of the tracks, another clips one of the men noticeably as he reacts painfully. With the ease of training the men break into a run to keep up with Gunsun, changing out their empty magazines while they do. Closing on the now two men, within fifty meters you can now identify the firing vehicle as a BTR-70 with it's back hatch open as it prepares to unload men now three-hundred and fifty meters to go. Painfully you and your men notice the retreating troops loose three of their number under the weight of fire between the small Russian group and high caliber MG.

Each man unleashes a single burst while on the advance again on the small group, their bullets managing to tear up the target they hit last wound and cause the other to stagger to the rail-road tracks. A unit of ten Russian soldiers disembark from the BTR-70 and begin to advance to both deal with the separated allied unit and to engage the incoming paratroopers. Another short burst of fire finishes off the lone surviving Russian on the tracks, however the small allied unit the APC was firing upon is now wiped out, as the APC turns around to follow it's disembarked troops towards the paratrooper unit, with only three hundred meters left to cross ground. "I need about fifty meters, Sir!" Yells the para with the RPG. As the distance continues to close the Russians move to take a knee, and the APC MG opens up, the bullets flying off harmlessly into the night towards the unit.

Somewhere in the distance behind them the exchange of at least one T-72 and AT Guns booms into the night followed by the zinging of high caliber machine gun fire into steel.

As your men drop prone and bring their rifles to bear the first hail of fire at this extreme long range on full automatic cuts into your position from the Russian unit and despite the fury of the many bullets swishing through the air or kicking up dirt none find a mark, the BTR-70 however scores much more success it's DShK's automatic fire catching one paratrooper twice causing him to evaporate in a shower of blood and flesh, another suffers a similar fate from just one bullet impacting his chest just like the first, however a third soldier of your paratroopers your actions have saved his life, the bullet which would of impacted onto his leg severing it cleanly thuds now harmlessly into the ground near the soldier instead.

A L85 ISW finds it's way to Gunsun's hands from the soldier beside him.

Moments after the paratroopers issue a half-burst out into the Russian unit, a bullet catching a soldier and sending him to the ground. Their return fire from the remaining nine causes a bullet to singe Gunsun's right arm as it barely misses it, a spark of pain flashing in his mind for a moment, and again a bullet barely misses your now prone troops thudding into the ground just beside the para with the RPG. The Paratrooper with the RPG fires - The rocket sailing off clearly missing the approaching vehicle which is now pulling ahead of the unit it was transporting barely hundred and fifty meters from you now it's DShK roaring to life. Again the orders to take cover has saved one of your men as the heavily caliber bullet tears a hole in the ground beside a para.

Corporal Briggin's to your left smiles despite the circumstance; "Come and get us ya Soviet dogs!"

The next five seconds of fire exchange tells a horrible tale, two Russian soldiers drop down into the dirt bullet wounds bursting their bodies. The paratroopers however suffer similar problems as the APC's DShK disintegrates another paratrooper while another heavy bullet barely misses Gunsun's leg thudding into the ground beside it and a rifle bullet scraping his ribs. Their rifle fire kills yet another Paratrooper on the return leaving a wounded paratrooper, the paratrooper with the RPG and Corporal Briggin's laying on their belt buckles against a half a dozen Russian soldiers at just over two hundred meters and the APC closing in on hundred and twenty meters. Somewhere in the distance intense booms echo into the night as HE rounds tear the 'shed' into metal ruins and the AT Guns inside return fire. The echo of wheeled vehicles can be heard just behind your paratrooper unit.

Just before the BTR-70 can continue it's bloody carnage of fire from its DShK the now reloaded British Paratrooper with the RPG-69 lands its rocket into the turret of the vehicle. The shot was impossible to make under such range and conditions and yet, the para did it. Two large explosions issue inside of the turret and it silences its fire the vehicle itself sliding off the right and apparently out of control. Behind it fire from the passing French VAB's pour onto the dismounted Russian unit from its top mounted MAG MG. The result from the two vehicles is less devastating as the fire had been on the paratroopers as the MAG MG's manage to wound four Russian soldiers, the Paratroopers add their fire the combined weight of the last remaining men, Gunson included taking down one of the Russian soldiers not hit by the MAG MG's, however their clips click empty. The Russians must of had a similar problem for once they do not return fire seeming busy all the same, except for a horrific explosion onto the furthest back VAB causing it to spark into a roar of shrapnel and orange light.

With little over two-hundred meters to cover to the forest things seem quite promising for the bloody encounter.

As the men pick themselves up off the ground, battered and covered in mud and muck with AK fire chasing their heels from the Russian unit they turn and begin running for the tree-line. To the right less then fifty meters away the remaining APC suddenly vibrates with heavy clunks as high caliber MG fire from the direction of the tracks pours into it and as it's back tire is blown out it drags to a stop, it's backdoor hatch bursting open and men preparing to bail out.

French soldiers pile out of the stopped VAB to be greeted with a burst of MG fire from the same T-72 tank stationed on top of the rail-road tracks. As the last French soldier falls in a bloody mess the tanks turret adjusts on another VAB further to the west - One of the French soldiers was carrying a AAT-52 MG the others FAMAS assault rifles.

As the remaining paras and Gunsun enter the thicker forest line, Corporal Briggin's comes in hot with AK fire kicking at his heels from the Russians on foot behind him carrying the AAT; somewhere behind him a BTR-80 drives to the VAB inspecting it with headlights and spotlights.

The French were not lying, only thirty meters in the forest did get rapidly dense, barely seeing two meters in front of the men sometimes, with a grunt Briggin's struggles sometimes to pull the bulky AAT through the thick trees. After about a minute of travel, it seems pursuit isn't evident however the war still rages outside the forest, the men glance at Gunsun, only a handful of their original number. "Can we expect some inside the forest, Sir?"

Gunson pats down his clothing and fixes up his beret "To my knowledge soldier, no. Out intel on this area is sketchy at best but now we're here, we can smooth out the creases. Obviously charlie knew where we were and whether or not they were intending to scatter our troops they seem to have accomplished that swiftly. Out intention now boys, is to regroup. I'm not an officer who will leave my men behind so we act now. Make sure your magasines are loaded, we're going back into the sh*t!"
Gunson reloads his weapons as his men do the same. "We head to the forest edge and lay down some heavy fire, cover our troops on their evac. Once they are in cover we move to their location and regroup. Move out." Gunson turns to the soldier who addressed him "Oh, and if you call me Sir instead of Kin again I'll shoot you myself. We're Para's, lets f**kin' act like it."
Setting off at a swift pace, the soldiers move off toward the forest line to lay down suppressing fire for the retreating troops.
