Nodding quickly to Bear, Duke holds up the handset to his mouth once again, and speaks as clearly as possible into it, only a hint of distress in his voice.

"Sergeant Valance this is Shadowfox. We have a six man team 150 metres southwest from your position in a cluster of trees. We have one man on his way to organise a retreat. Pull to the south of the highway over the incline for cover. Ivans roughly 200 metres north of your position bunkered down. Two pk's and two at'guns. Pop smoke if you got them."

Duke keeps repeating the same call over and over on the radio until a response if any is heard. When he gets a moment, he turns to Guns beside him in the driver's seat.

"Get ready to give the call to rock'n roll. When Bear gets there give him a moment to report and then when hes ready, give him what cover you can.

"f*cking cowboys" guns snarls as he puts the Humvee into neutral and climbs out and kneels next to the driver side tyre "miller, trips get ready to lay down some covering fire on those MG nests, we need to give that idiot some cover" swinging his styre up cocking it slowly checking the action as he does.
"you know that we are trading a green berret, for a group of dead men right" guns says to duke before bring his rifle up, looking down the sights at the nearest MG nest.

Private Miller and Trips moves into position by the tree line, pointing their rifles towards the closest gun pit in a smooth motion. It's thick camouflage netting ripples slightly as Sanchez's bullets pierce it into the confusion beyond and then sways with the fire coming from within.

Bear moves through the slightly illuminated forest at a good pace despite keeping to cover, carrying himself a quarter of the distance while back at the Hum-Vee the radio hums to life once more; "Sergeant Valance to Shadowfox - Why are your people engaging our recon group? Prepare to receive darnit! - Lowicz we are friendly - US 2nd Marine Division from Kutno! - I repeat. Hold fire, darnit!"

Back at the road, men from the disabled armored vehicle move around behind it to block line of sight to them successfully avoiding fire while at the crashed Hum-Vee the main AT-Gun barely misses, crashing into the nearby bare bush with a large kick up of dust. The driver of the Hum-Vee uses the jeep's frontal section as cover while he unloads his magazine into the nearest entrenchment with the rest of the squad who disembarked including the M60 - some of the shots visibly finding their marks in splatters of blood as men fall over the edge of the entrenchment. The return fire from the machine guns however devastates the small group, causing the last two in front of the vehicle to fall lifelessly to the ground and the gunner on the M60 collapses inside of the vehicle.

"Shadowfox; respond! Or we will be forced to engage you with armor!" Threatens the Hum-Vee's radio. Somewhere in the far distance of the brightly illuminated northern entrenchments men reach the bluff they were running too, and seem to disappear suddenly.

Seeming confused for a moment, Duke shouts back into the handset.

"Lowicz hostile, I repeat, Lowicz is hostile. Large enemy pressence within town, numbering a brigade's worth. We are engaged by a enemy entrenchment to the south of the town.
I advise falling back. Our position is roughly located somewhere on the highway south of the town a few clicks. Once we pick up some of our boys we will proceed west to rondeveu."

Duke's attention seems focused on the radio during most of the action, but as he speaks he looks off towards the men under fire on the highway.

hearing the radio message guns looks up from his sights and holds a hand up to miller and trips, signaling for them to hold their fire.
"we need to leave now, bear will just have to look after himself, one clip sustained fire then load up and we are gone"
as he looks towards duke, guns frowns "get onto bear, he had a handset right? and tell him to rally those boys, and we will meet up a few clicks west of here"
guns looks down his sights again and squeezes the trigger, the muzzle flash illuminating the area briefly in a strobe light effect as his rounds wizz downrange

As Bear breaks the cover his arm comes up in his mightiest throw seconding a small canister towards the northern side of the road where it bounces to a stop a few meters north of the highway and within moments begins gushing out smoke into its nearby area.

Sanchez's rifle retorts with another shot which cut through the netting once more, quickly followed by a sustained burst from Miller, Trips and Guns until their rifles empty before they prepare to move. The shower of fire seems to have effect as a man falls out of the back of the netting entrenchment covered in blood.

Over at the crashed Hum-Vee sight the lone remaining driver ducks down behind the engine of the Hum-Vee as machine gun rounds chew up it's front once more, bleeding heavily.

At the armored car wreck the men now aware of Bear's presence turn and shout at him; "Halt! Who goes there?"

Back at the groups Hum-Vee it's radio responds; "Acknowledged Shadowfox, save our boys and rally west along the highway we will wait to receive - We will be on highway - Announce before approaching."

In the far distance of the now brightly illuminated area north of the entrenchments the "large bluff" begins to tear as a huge hulking mass of armor breaks from it. Well over eight hundred meters away the three tanks make their presence felt on the landscape around them.

Bear doesn't pause as he continues to move forward, rifle raised once more. "Master Serg't Atkins, Green beret, attached to the 5th Infantry div . Here tah pull your arse outta tha' fire."
He kneels in beside the men as they lower their weapons.
"mah men are in the copse of trees south west of here a few hundred metres. Get yer arse there now, ill grab the driver and cover your arses. Move it now!! Double time!! Pop any smoke ya have, unleash hell and run like the wind Bullseye!"

Without waiting for acknowledge, he begins to move forward towards the road's edge, pausing before raising his head slightly to view the driver under fire at the Humvee. he casts a quick eye over the casualties, failing to see any movement among the chewed up remains.

"Yo trooper, i'll lay down some fire, get yer arse over here quick smart when you 'ere hell unleashed. We're outta here." With that he raises the radio to his mouth and speaks hurriedly; "Duke, lay that coverin' fire down thick n fast, got tha' boys on tha' hop. Careful of tha' incoming tanks, see three o' dem. Keep tha' motor runnin'. Once those boys get in, try n get em outta there, ill meet up when I can if needs be Ova'

Bear notices some movement in the wrecked APC near the open door and moves forward using the wreck as cover.

Duke sets the radio handset back into position and then hops from the humvee, giving a quick word to those inside.

"Im going to give some support from here and leg it out with Bear. You boys dont need to stay, go ahead and take off. Rookie, now ya time to be showing me the man you are. I would like that rifle of yours here with me. We will rally with you at Sergeant Valance's position."

Duke grabs his m16a2 and takes cover next to a tree, drops to a knee and lets off a few rounds every now and then until the fleeing troops arrive.

Sanchez and Duke hoof's out as he groups Hum-Vee spins off into the night, carrying itself over the harsh jagged terrain of a post-war zone, dodging fences and other difficulties.

As Bear fires from around the armored vehicle wreck the troops around the vehicle break into full round towards the forest line, as he calls out to the Hum-Vee's driver the man turns and begins to run but his momentum is suddenly ended in a immense blast from a incredible HE blast, the shrapnel of which carrying over the shattered wreck of the armored vehicle causing one burning hot fragment of steel to lodge itself into Bear's stomach as he feels the heat singe over him, painfully looking back towards the Hum-Vee Bear notices the grim scene of the trooper who did not die alone is now in shreds beside the jeep. Shaking off the loud pinging noise from his ears he turns his attention to the inside of the armored vehicle, the LAV-25 has seen better days with the gunner and commander both dead, just as he's about to leave the wreck he hears a barely conscious groan from the driver and moves to the man, checking him he hoists him over his shoulders and bursts from the armored vehicle making a run for the woods.

Shots continue to harass the gun pit as members from the tree line fire into it, it's heavy netting making the effects difficult to notice however they were not surprised when the machine gun in the main pit lifted it's attention onto the fleeing troop just meters from Duke and Sanchez - One man's head exploding in a bright shower of crimson gore.

The immense bulk of the tanks continue to roll forth, another shell tearing into the armored vehicle completely smashing it into a burning wreck as Bear continues his determined run plowing ever forward with harassing machine gun fire at his heels - the fire unable to sight and track from the pits and most missing horribly until one bullet punches through him just below the collar bone. The effect causes him to stagger but he once more raises himself to his feet, driver of the armored vehicle in tow as he commences his run once more. Grunting in defiance he trudges forth until men from the tree-line pace out to help him with his burden - Somewhere, he is not sure when another bullet had grazed his calf and upper arm, the blood seeping down to his hand.

With a last glance over the battlefield the tanks seem to be slowing as they reach the road, their turrets turning to survey the area. The group, not wishing to be there when the turret surveyed them with whichever vision aid they were using decide it's time to depart, traveling at the best speed they can with one unconscious man - Although in the chaos of grabbing and aiding Bear into the woods, Duke had collected the fallen man's dog-tags that had been shot in the head with the high caliber MG rounds.

looking towards duke and sanchez, guns shrugs slightly "good luck, your gunna need it" before planting his foot heavily on the accelerator, the humvees tyres spinning momentarily before speeding of as its tyres get traction on the dirt. guns swings the wheel hard to the left, the whole vehicle sliding sideways as he does.
"your gunner now miller, and i want you on that radio trips, last thing we need is to cop a friendly round"guns says as he flicks the wheel left and right avoiding obstacles in his path.

The progress of the group traveling by Hum-Vee reaches the quickly deployed American units on the dark stretch of highway less then km along. The radio communications going very efficient Guns decides to hang the vehicle back after dropping off the entire crew to pick up more of the group on foot and immensely speed up the rally of the entire group by ferrying. The handset carried by Bear and the vehicles 25km work out just fine in this role, and soon they are all standing by 'Sergeant Valances' group which comprises of a heavily loaded two and a half ton truck and six men and two M1 Abrams which turns out to be a very pleasant sight indeed under these circumstances. The truck is heavily laden with repair tools and jerry cans obviously carrying the fuel required by such immense armored vehicles.

Sergeant Valance looks over the party with a sigh relieved to see the returned soldiers he offers a merry pat on the shoulder of Bear; "Is this all of you?" He asks, assessing the Hum-Vee and small group - while in the background Trips picks up the vehicles radio receiver and then calls out for Bear; "Sir, you should take this! It's Major Wiedermann"

The Master Sergeant offers Sergeant Valence a small grin, though his gaze remains serious. His blood soaked hand is clenched across his stomach as he speaks, managing to offer a quick half salute with his other.
"Master serg'nt James Atkin, spec ops ... just call me Bear. Whoever isn't 'ere won't be here, I ne'er left anyone alive back there. Got as many o' tha' boys out as we could." He offers an appreciate nod of his head towards Duke and Sanchez." Couldn't 'ave done it without mah crew tho'. I'm sorry bout the rest Valence." He looks up as Trips calls him over once more; "I need tah take this."

He makes his way to the Humvee, leaning heavily on the door frame once he gets there and taking the radio.

"This is Shadowfox, repeat this is Shadowfox. Bear recieving. Go ahead Sir. Ova'"

guns lifts the hood of the humvee and frowns as a ploom of steam rises from the engine block, unscrewing the radiator cap he empties his canteen into it with a sigh.
"im not sure how much more this old hummer can take" with a small frown "its got almost as many holes in it as you bear" he adds with a smile "you realy should see if these tankers have a medic around here, last thing you need is an infection"
moving back around to the drivers side he looks in at the fuel guage, tapping it a couple of times with his finger, hopeing that the needle was just stuck "sh*t, hey trips you want to see if you can scrounge up a jerry can of fuel"

guns pucks up his strye from the dashboard defore leaning against the humvee, flicking the mag release, catching the spent magazine in his hand before slamming home a full one. he then begins to refill the empty magazine. as he does he looks across to duke "how hairy did it get out there before i picked you guys up?"

Atkins takes his med pack from his kit and sits it on the passenger seat of the Humvee, taking the handset up once more.

"Warfox. We got a situation 'ere. Have encountered and engaged forward Russian defence elements with confirmed sightings of 3 russian armour units, propable t-72's. We have managed to link up with elements of US 2nd Marine Division from Kutno after pullin' 8 of their recon unit from the proverbial firestorm they stumbled into. i made the call to engage and pull their arses out sah! Rendevou at around 10 clicks west of hot zone. Master serg'nt Atkins out ... Oh ... Make sure you bring Kawalski wid ya. Ova."

With that , Bear begins to unpack his med kit and once this is done, removes his kit and shirt to look over his wounds.

Looking to Sanchez with a slight frown Duke tells him.

"Dont mention it. Seriously. Dont mention it. This aint school anymore rookie. You dont need to thank me for picking you on my side at basketball."

Duke shakes the mans hand quickly and starts looking over a map and fiddling with it a while looks up from it with a smile to Guns, which fades quickly.

"We lost a man on the withdrawl... but we did what we could. I grabbed his tags. He wont be forgotten."

Duke shows the map to Guns and points to where they are on the map, and where the base camp is.

"I know where base camp is. Major Weidermann and the rest of the boys if they still there should be eight clicks north-west, roughly twenty minutes away.

Bear nods in appreciation to Sanchez as he takes the offered canteen, taking a large draw from it and hands it back.
"Mostly just scratches, couple a bit deeper 'n the others. Trips returns shaking his head with a man following in his wake; "There what's left of the 50th Armored Division, with some men from the 2nd marine division - They got mechanics like Thompson here but no medics." 'Private Thompson of the 50th Armored Division snaps a quick salute as he eyes off the steaming engine block of the Hum-Vee.

After a moment he whistles. "How did you even get that thing here?" He casts a quick grin then motions towards the truck. "Just going to grab some tools, see what I can do."

Sergeant Valance moves to lean against a wall beside Bear, propping his arm on his M16A2. "The Russians don't chase during the night - They got hundreds of platoons scattered through the area and they know they can find us survivors just fine during the light, So they get a good nights sleep, then just keep rolling us while we run during the day -and- night. Few of my men haven't slept since the morning before last.. Master Sergeant, us 50th Division boys were on the line supporting the summer offensive, it wouldn't surprise me if we have the last two Abrams in Poland." He pauses with a slight sigh, the dark lines around his eyes putting many more years onto his age.

"I know you probably don't want to hear this but I was rushing these tanks to Lowicz to try and get them back into the fight - They know we got them - I was hoping Lowicz had held out. They got alot of our boys at Gostynin... Seems like they're using it as a rally point before sending allied capured troops north to their POW camps."

The radio on the Hum-Vee breaks the sudden mood around the makeshift highway camp; "Shadowfox, proceed to three clicks east of the highway crossroads. Await our arrival off-road to the south - We will rally with you there - have Sanchez link our groups together."

Sergeant Valance rises up, snatching up his M16A2; "Permission to join your troop Master Sergeant - hope you got a Battalion out there - We could take some of our captured men back." He turns to the parked vehicles; "Mount up men, we're moving out."

Through training and expertise the two groups finally meet back up over the highway, with more then a moderate surprise as the unit discovers it's now in possession of two M1 Abram tanks. The group now with the recon forces added back onto it move southward, following a dirt trail which leads them directly to the nearby heavy Polish forest - And continues until the compound of the logging camp comes into view. Very old with some of the fence fallen in disrepair the place is not strongest base a military unit could hope for, however with it's large open shed which was obviously once used long ago to hold the logs before being processed in the workshop shed across the yard from it, it offers plenty of room to park the units vehicles. The small house is two storied with a large bunkhouse upstairs, kitchen and recreation and meal room in through the front door. Once holding twenty or so loggers it has more then enough room to hold most of the unit. Nothing has been left behind besides some old pans, firewood, and the saws and tools used in the workshop to cut down the logs. A quick look over the area agrees that it has not been used for a very long time and is still abandoned and the unit moves in.
